they don't like the ETEK/JDSU deal because "we don't want to get into a situation where there's only a single supplier." Maybe I haven't had my morning coffee yet... but ETEK was their only supplier and now JDSU/ETEK will still be their only supplier. What has changed? Am I missing something?


I think what the ALA guy is referring to is that there are no other suppliers for some components other than ETEK and JDSU. Using ALA's size, they can use both suppliers to get better deals on the components by moving their weight to the supplier with the better solution. Now, with the merger occuring, there is only one supplier and they will not be able to do that due to lack of competition.
