Hezbollah: Any Offensive against Iran Would Set MidEast on Fire

18/03/2010 Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem warned on Thursday that any American or Israeli military offensive against Iran would set the whole Middle East region on fire, ruling out at the same time any Israeli war against Lebanon in the near future.

Speaking to Reuters news agency, Sheikh Qassem explained that any attack on Iran might explode the whole region and said that the price would be enormous of any war on the aggressor whether it was the United States or Israel. His eminence noted that the price would also be expensive for those who will accept the usage of their bases to target Iran.

Sheikh Qassem emphasized that the issue with Iran is completely different that the situation with Iraq and Afghanistan. "Neither the United States nor the Israeli enemy can have the illusion that they can attack Iran and normally continue their lives or even issue an international resolution in their interest," his eminence said, stressing that this issue is huge and very dangerous. "They perceive this reality and that's why they didn't attack Iran yet although this is what they want to do since many years."

Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General, meanwhile, said that the Resistance party was completely ready to face the Israeli threats and dangers. "We won't accept to see the region explode at our expense or that the Israeli war be justified and therefore, we'll be ready to defend ourselves," Sheikh Qassem stressed.

His eminence said, however, that there are no signals of an imminent Israeli war against Lebanon. However, Sheikh Qassem admitted that the Israeli enemy was preparing and planning for a war that would be launched "one day," noting that this day might be too far and that the Resistance should remain on alert. "We have no guarantees at all with this enemy and we know that circumstances might change at any time pushing the enemy to launch an aggression against Lebanon."
