Listen to this very short section of the SOFN interview carefully: biz.yahoo.com
Here's what the CEO of SOFN says in response to ISP divestment rumors:

First he says something to the affect that they can't talk about rumors. THEN he says, "Maybe that's a topic for an interview at a later time." When pressed, he says, "There's nothing I can possibly say about that."

He also says, "Wireless access to the Internet is the next big thing."

Let me get this straight:

1) Details of Softnet Zones' financial/ownership arrangements between SOFN, CPQ and CMGI aren't being released yet for some unknown reason.

2) ALTA is being used as the portal for Softnet Zones, even though they already have their own "ISP Channel"!

3) With regard to SOFN getting rid of ISP Channel, SOFN's CEO says "Maybe that's a topic for an interview at a later time."

4) SOFN has an agreement w/ STRM to provide broadband access to Latin America.

5) CMGI just announced an agreement w/ STRM to provide free access to Latin America. Details are not yet released for some unknown reason.

6) My bet is that wireless access service is, or at least WILL be a whole lot cheaper to deploy than line based service. I would love to see more data on that.

CONCLUSION: I now feel quite good about the idea that CMGI is about to buy SOFN... just as they bought NaviNet some time ago, SOFN seems to be the perfect next step as the world turns to wireless.

Gotta go...
