The rise of the robotaxis. Bloomberg Asia. The interviewer asks if there may be geopolitical issues and the gentleman eludes the question. There are definitely national security issues with LiDAR as the technology is presently the best mapping technology available. We don't want an adversary mapping our cities, our sensitive military sites and more. A second consideration, again not discussed, is the data. LiDAR collects massive amounts of data and we don't want that data in the hands of a foreign country. Lastly, China's data for their existing robotaxi services is questionable. Waymo and May Mobility(Ouster sensor) are strictly regulated and provide accurate data. youtube.com
