U.S. trade deficit jumps to record-wide $40 billion
By Rachel Koning

The U.S. trade deficit gaped to a record-wide $40 billion in November as Americans took in a record amount of foreign-made clothes, toys, televisions and furniture. Economists were expecting a narrower trade shortfall. October's deficit was little changed at $35.1 billion. Exports were little changed from a month earlier. They totaled $83.2 billion in November after $82.3 billion in October, the Commerce Department reported Friday. But imports jumped to $123.3 billion from $117.5 billion in October. Record consumer goods imports were behind the wider deficit. Oil imports declined in November from a month earlier.

surely that's good news
