Yes, correct on chaff, just an explosion of alluminum foil basically. Was writing the last post to quick- I think "tracers" might be a better term, but its been a few years since those Navy-Marine exercises... sitting off the coast of Sardinia as the Marines stormed the shore and the missiles flew throught the night sky hitting "targets" on the deserted hills... hanging off the coast of Lebanon and watching the Beirut fireworks while going to General Quarters "All hands man your battle stations" when the Soviet frigates decided to do a "close encounter"...
