More fun stuff about iWatch and HealthKit

Another thing about that Apple heart rate monitor patent link I posted yesterday is that it includes user identification. The mind boggles … we all (should) know what a tangle health care law is, and I'm not even talking about coverage plans, I'm talking about regulatory issues having to do with the security of your own health data. For Apple to even attempt navigating these stormy waters with HealthKit, which like any digital system is at least theoretically vulnerable to hacking, is a strong indication that they think they have a very strong security model, and probably that Apple is Thinking Different about securing this data. I mean, sure, the idea for each of us to be able to monitor our own fitness regimen is attractive, but the fact that this data will exist at all means that others might be able to get to it unless it's sufficiently protected. Authorizing user access to that data is an absolute requirement, as is a mechanism for securely releasing portions of it to authorized health care providers.

[tangent]What could Apple do to automate the processing of health care claims? That seems like a hugely manual and expensive process today, and any firm that could provide a streamlining solution would stand to profit immensely.[/tangent]

Cult Of Mac rounded up more patents granted to Apple earlier today: Intelligent sensors will make the iWatch even smarter than you thought. They also furthered speculation that the iWatch / iBracelet will include biometric sensors beyond just a heart rate monitor and blood pressure monitor, adding blood glucose and sweat(?) monitors: Is the FDA making us wait for iWatch?

And then the Wall Street Journal published this:

Apple Plans Multiple Designs for Smartwatch
Wrist Device Will Include More Than 10 Sensors Including Ones to Track Fitness

And finally from Philip Elmer-DeWitt at Fortune comes two stories: news of an AAPL upgrade based on a recognition that Apple is already providing one answer to pyslent's question from earlier this week about "how you see Apple monetizing the connective tissue between ... devices":
1. Apple's app revenue growing 100% per year
A look back at a timeline forecast published by a Taiwanese analyst in April that provides some (inferred) detail to Apple's intimations that this year promises a very strong product pipeline indeed:
2. Apple's iWatch is back in the news

These are headier times than we have seen for several years, peeps.
