Hi all. I am new to this thread but have been over at the AERN thread for quite some time. I have a couple of questions about the more conventional battery technologies NiMH and Li-Ion. The questions have to do with the medium term use of these technologies in the following applications:

Cellular phones
Camcorders
Notebook Computers

I am also interested in the differences in the battery use in different regions of the world. For example: In Japan, the preferred battery in cell phones is Li-Ion. In the US, it seems to be NiMH. Why is this?
I hope that any of you can shed some light here:

1. For all three of the applications, which of the two technologies is dominant today?. What will become dominant in the medium term(5 years). What are the pros and cons of each?

2. If the two become cost-competitive, will Li-Ion inevitably eliminate NiMH?

3. If the two are not cost-competitive, what do you think will happen? Is it probably that even at a higher cost, people will prefer Li-Ion because of better performance?

I appreciate any help you can give me. If this is not hte appropriate palce for this discussion, I would love to get replies via email at arielwars@aol.com.

Thanks in advance.

Ariel
