Thanks for confirming my figures, roadie.
The 'shares held' column came to 1.528m which is just a hop and a skip lower than my 1.6m. I see these figures were as at 31st March.
The thing about these funds, and especially so the big ones like Scotia, is that whilst they can easily be classed as an insti-holder, you can, as an outsider, never be sure when they are holding our shares as a genuine investment, or simply using a big bunch of retail investors' shares as cover for their shorts.
The regularly-published short volumes help us discover when, as I have posted here about 6-8 months ago, those instis are holding shares for short-covering. Shorting volumes rise and fall over time. The 1.6m institutional holdings are both long or short at any particular time, depending on the company's circumstances.
I'd confidently predict that, eg Scotia, will vastly increase its number of shorts if our company doesn't display some sort of commercial success in the up-coming financials.
Hedge Funds hedge. That's what they do. They go short and long at different times. They are happy to have retail investors lend (Zentek) shares to them, for free or for fee, so they can short the asses off us genuine Longs, with bigger volumes. |
