I am not surprised I never came across references to the Carbonari in researching Freemasonry, because it seems their only "link" to the latter is that it is "possibly derived from Freemasonry".

As for the anecdote about kissing a goat's behind, it is complete crap. Either he has made the story up himself, or the group he was initiated into was not Freemasonry.
