German April inflation highest since Feb 94

Frankfurt, May 11 (BridgeNews) - Final German consumer price index was
revised
upwards slightly to show a 0.4% rise in April from March, and a jump of 2.9%
on
year, the Federal Statistics Office said. Inflation in April was the highest
recorded since February 1994, and was strongly affected by price
developments in
household energy, it said. Continuous rise in food prices also contributed
to
the annual increase in prices. ( Story .1628 )

German March real retail sales dn 1.9% vs Feb, dn 0.6% on year

Frankfurt, May 11 (BridgeNews) - German March retail sales fell a real 0.6%
on
the year and were up 0.7% in nominal price terms, the Federal Statistics
Office
said. From January to March, German retail sales fell by 0.3% in real terms
and
1.0% in nominal price terms. Hence, the expected boost in retail sales on
the
back of German tax reform has set in only gradually so far. ( Story .1657 )
