I love old movies, Rambi...
Turner Classic is my favorite channel, especially since American Movie Classics now has succumbed to commercial interruptions ... I am boycotting it now. Turner has a fabulous vault, going all the way back to the silents (which are too old even for me). I love the film noir classics of the 40s and 50s, most of which were considered cheezy second features at the time, but which now have gained great respect for their atmosphere of dark, shadowy city streets oozing menace at every turn, and their plots of protagonists doomed from the start.
Tonight we got around to watching (on tape) the recent PBS 3-hour series on Woodrow Wilson. I've only come recently to know much about him, but his is a really interesting life story. He was a man of the highest ideals and intellect, but not well-equipped to handle politics, which eventually defeated him and robbed him of his health. Near the end of his presidency he was crippled by a massive stroke which was concealed by his wife and others. For months his wife effectively became the President. Quite a story.
I know you will love "Hillary and Jackie." Maybe you can find it in a video store. It's only a year or two old, I think. We took Scarlett and Melanie for their beach romp today, and all the while J and I discussed that movie, and what we each got out of various scenes and dialogue. That is a sure sign of a good flick! The musical score is an added plus, cello and flute.
