Marcos, Glad to see Canada fighting back in the softwood lumber dispute. Prime Minister Chretien made a veiled threat yesterday in the House of Commons:

"I believe if they [The US] wants to have free trade in natural gas and oil they should have free trade in wood too, because if they were not to have oil and gas from Canada they will need a lot of wood to heat their homes."

Also Canfor filed a suit against the US Government for a minimum of $250 million claiming the US violated NAFTA provisions by setting "arbitrary", "capricious" and "discrimantory" duties.

Most encouraging is the beginning of high level meetings between Canada's international trade minister Andrew Pettigrew and Bush negotiator Marc Racicot. Racicot is quoted by the Vancouver Sun as saying he wants a solution within 30 to 45 days.

We're not out of the woods yet but I am beginning to see the forest for the trees.

regards

etc.
