A real sore point with me right now. Let me guess, your modem is either integrated or a PCI-based one. In which case it is more than like a WinModem, i.e. it depends on Windows software to supply some of it's functionality. Since the manufacturers are reluctant to a) write Linux drivers (which I can understand) and b) release the information needed to write said drivers (which I DON'T understand), then Linux users are SOL. As are both of the BeOS users, et al. Now there is some support for the PC-Tel chips, but that is about it.
