Alcatel has won ACCESS to ~140 Million local access lines:

BEL= ~40million local lines

JPC contract -
BellSouth ~24million local lines
Ameritech ~20 million local lines
SBC+Pac ~30 million local lines

Canada contracts -
Bell Canada ~20 million local lines, plus a few smallservice providers in Canada.

Add them up, we get ~140-130 million local access lines. Please add your lines up or show a URL indicating the number of local lines in North America. Alcatel has won multi-year contracts with these service providers for a STAND-ALONE DSLAM at ~$350/line.

At $350/line Cisco is locked out of the stand-alone DSLAM market for these vendors. So your remark about the JPC contracts not being exclusive is pointless. To break into these contracts requires an INTEGRATED voice/data solution, like Nortel and Lucent can provide. Alcatel has locked down the STAND-ALONE DSLAM contracts for a number of years. I expect Alcatel to win the USWest DMT DSLAM contract.

Congrats on the Cisco contract with Covad. I wouldn't call that a major deal. A contract with a service provide that doesn't own any local access lines. <grin>... I missed that one.

So, still waiting for your URL on the total number of North American local lines.

You have proven that you can't produce a URL. Just provide the data, like you said on the ASND thread. Stop the chearleading and provide the data.
