If ML is pushing the stock you are guaranteed it is as secure an investment as you could make on your own; alternatively, they have a large position and they want to unload a large part of it. You distinguish the two by looking at what ML is doing prior to the hype-fest. Sooner or later they are going to burn themselves with a total loss of public trust. AOL is doomed with or without their help.
