Regarding QCOM-USWest and wireless vs DSL, Gilder's glossary defines xDSL as follows:

"xDSL: AN acronym used to refer collectively to the various types of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology. A telephone company expression that means: 'We don't have any idea what kind of digital subscriber line can save our tail and tariffs against cable modems.'"
