Eisenhower was President in 1956 and he knew a bit about war. He didn't help Hungary because we couldn't. There was the small matter of logistics and supply lines and the fact that we would have run smack into the Red Army in their front yard. Czechoslovakia is the same. We would have been fighting the Third World War the minute we intervened.

What would you have us do about Tianamen Square? Invade mainland China? Or Ruwanda, were the killing was done by roving bands with machetes? We would have had to occupy the whole country to suppress something like that. And that's precisely what will be required in Kosovo. An army of occupation with no time limit. In a mountainous land riddled with tunnels, perfectly made for guerrilla war. Against a tribe that held 25,000 Wehrmacht at bay in WWII.

You say we shouldn't do anything.

It's not our problem.

I guess my definition of "us" is different from yours. I can't think of a different explanation.

Then let me make it clear: you aren't going. I'm not going. I don't see "us" risking a damned thing. It looks to me like we will be sending someone else's kids to do the fighting, and I don't see that they will be able to "solve" a 600 year old civil war. They'll simply get shot until there's enough casualties that everyone back here will wonder how in hell we got into this. Would you have your kids enlist in the infantry to "solve" the Balkan's civil war?
