Southern Conservative Men Are Unhappy, Polls Say By Kenneth T. Walsh May 8, 2007 (US News) Democratic polls suggest that support for the political status quo is dropping even among white men in the South, a core Republican constituency. About 61 per cent of Southern white men are now dissatisfied with the direction of the country, up from 50 per cent last July, according to new research from the Democratic National Committee that was provided to U.S. News. The survey also found that, nationally, 48 per cent of self-identified conservative men are dissatisfied with the country's direction, up from 41 per cent last July. Democratic analysts say it's part of an overall souring of the nation's mood in part because of the unpopularity of the Iraq war and declining confidence in President Bush, and it could spell trouble for the Republican presidential nominee in the 2008 elections if the trends continue. cbsnews.com
