IMO the First Nations would just replace the crown here re property taxes etc.
BUT if not, if someone purchased a property, fee simple with the crown, and the crown did not have proper title and the fee simple title wasn't swapped to one with the First Nations, then the homeowner could sue the crown, big-time.
Seems to me the Mayor of Richmond is just stirring a hornet's nest without laying out possible legal principles. Those principles need to be clarified, for sure.
