Everything has costs
Haven't looked into in decades, but I recall passive Trombe walls having minimal impact. Done right, they can create substantial amounts of heat.

geothermal via grid under or around sfh provides "free" 55 degree ac and reduced heating costs
Seems well worth investment. Almost should be mandatory
Overall, all alternative energy such as solar, wind and nuclear can always be improved
Even fossil fuels
