Never saw anything about the purple hearts but the invasion of Japan in ww2. was expected to bring tremendous casualties and could support this assumption.

On same tangent.. Did you ever hear about the bombing of Washington State and maybe Oregon or perhaps even British Columbia.. by Japan during ww2.... I understand they were filling balloons with bombs and have the lift off to carry in the jet streams across the U.S. Since they never hear a word of any of them of hitting the U.S. they stopped the practice.. I understand these bombs did hit in Washington State in remote areas and was kept very quiet.
