Several people have mentioned problems with Windows 98 system crashes and freezes. Many of these problems are a result of Win98's increased integration with Internet Explorer. Here is one way to reduce these problems.

Launch Internet Explorer and click View, then Internet Options, and select the Advanced tab from the dialog box that appears. In the submenu labeled Browsing, check the box that says Browse In a New Process. This will force Internet Explorer to run in its own separate portion of RAM. This will eat into your system resources, but it prevents the browser from inflicting a crash on other applications.
