Dear Bill, it is what they call a Swedish finish. They come in and sand. They remove any wood that should be replaced. Then they caulk between each piece.

All I know is that we only had to spend one night at a hotel because the fumes were toxic.

The family room floor was done in 1990. It was a new room that was added to the house. We also had the bedroom floors re-done. These floors were placed when the house was built. And the finish blended from one room to another. No problems. Every thing is fine. The floors are oak. The finish is light. It's polished. The only thing I ever have to do is wipe it with water that has a bit of either vinegar or lemon juice.

I may not be able to type tomorrow cuz I've been trying to clean the living room. It had a carpet on top. I don't know what kind of finish it had but we wonder if we can rent a floor cleaner and polisher cuz I don't think I can clean it on my own. The neck and upper back muscles are sore, very sore.
