Those things happen all the time by both sides of any conflict. I don't go back as far as WW1, but I know it happened in WW2 and Vietnam. I didn't know anyone in the Korean war, so I can't say for sure, but I suspect it did. People who aren't in the middle of things should temper their outrage, IMO it's inappropriate.
