EDGE Handsets at CTIA
<< Think we'll see any EDGE handsets at CTIA? >>
Yes. Since EDGE is about to see the light of day, we'll see EDGE handsets at CTIA. We'll also see an EDGE modem card or two or 3.
We'll at least see the Nokia 6200 EDGE terminal which was not only the first FCC approved EDGE terminal to ship to the US (for IOT), but also the first FCC approved terminal of any type capable of operating on all 3 operational frequencies of the Americas as well as GSM 1800 in Europe, Africa, and Asia, and which supposedly will ship commercially in Q2 2003 (original expected date was Q1) - although that of course depends entirely on network preparedness and carriers readiness to accept commercial shipments.
<< I see that the 6220 will be available 3Q '03. >>
Yes, and although that product will deliver to Europe and Asia before the States, it is yet another tri-mode worldphone, capable of operation in the 1900 MHz frequency widely used by GSM PCS carriers in the Americas and also capable of being used in Brazil so I am sure that Nokia will also be showing that model as well at CTIA. It's a step up from the 6200 because it adds an integrated camera, video playback, and presence-enabled contacts.

Sony Ericsson will be showing the GC82 EDGE PC Card for Dual Band 850/1900 MHz GSM networks in North America.
Motorola will be showing the T725 EDGE handset with clip-on camera that they released in January in China.
Now everything above is no surprise because releases have already been made elsewhere.
We'll have to wait till next week to see what Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericsson have in their goody bag.
