Buying And Selling...

>>>I don't understand, and I've seen this before. High volume and no movement. I've also seen very low volume and drastic movement. Can you explain what moves a stock? I thought more buys = up, more sells = down. No?<<<

George:

Usually it's emotion... More people either want to buy or sell... And the price moves in the direction of the emotion... In the middle, we have the market makers who can put their own spin on it... If they want to accumulate stock for their own accounts they'll help keep the price down by not matching orders at the higher prices... People will lose patience and lower their order prices on the buy and sell side... This causes a buffer on upward price movement on a day like today because market makers may be accumulating the stock...
