A couple quibbles with the doom and gloom here:

1. Q1 CPU revenue vs. Q4 is on average UP 2% for the years 1999-2006. Message 22618129

2. Tax loss selling is mostly over, as mutual funds have to jettison their losers before end of November to take the loss.

3. virtualization performance penalty of 50%
The performance penalty on virtualization is undocumented. Even if it were 50%, virtualization is still <20% of the load on a virtual server, so the true penalty is <10%.

4. It also appears consistent with them saying HPC work is not adversely affected.
Barcelona servers in HPC market don't use virtualization.
