well two cheers for this article from the british left. But they have their head up their collective asses wrt Hizbullah and Israel

This is the real danger of Israel's actions in Lebanon. Israel has every right to exist, in security. Internally it is a democratic society and, as a non-Jew, I would infinitely prefer to live in Tel Aviv than Teheran. But Israel's vicious behaviour towards the Palestinians, and now in Lebanon, creates a new suicide bomber, a new resistance fighter and a new potential terrorist — in the Middle East and well beyond — every hour of the day. Yes, Hizbollah provoked the Israelis. But they reacted with all the calm deliberation of a maddened bull. They are not the only ones.

Just one little question: what does the author think Hizbullah is FOR? What is its purpose? It sounds like she buys the Hizbullah line that they are they to guard the Shia from the rampaging Israelis who want to attack for no reason. You don't want the Israelis to attack you, just don't cross the border and kill Israelis. It works great.

Hizbullah's purpose is threefold: a) to obey Iran its master b) to take over Lebanon by force and turn it into another Iran and c) to destroy Israel. The author gets a and b but can't understand that c means that Hizbullah cannot stand quiet with Israel, and must do what it takes to create war. Raid over the border, shoot missiles, claim Israel still occupies Lebanon when it doesn't, whatever it takes. If Israel doesn't react to small raids, the raids will get bigger.
