>IMHO one problem we "sophisticated" online investors have, especially here on
Silicon investor, is that we know TOO much. We are very comfortable with
technology, we enjoy exploring new tech capabilities, we can see the next great
thing that's coming. We are in short "early adopters".

However the really big money is made when the mass market balloons behind the
early adopters. This is happening now on AOL and NOWHERE else. Sure we're
moving on. We have a "community" here on the net. But don't make the mistake of
thinking your experience is universal.
Eight million members, just a quirk?!<

You make some excellent points, and I hope you stop in again and visit us. I have said before that we (bears) get a little too insular here. I do have a couple of responses, however, to your points. Is 8 million just a quirk? Definitely not. But don't you think it has something to do with the most costly advertising and promotion plan ever undertaken in the online world? Perhaps the money would have been better spent developing superior content. Secondly, I agree that we must separate the masses from the congnescenti. But, strides are being made as we speak making the net more user friendly. For years, all AT&T could say was how they were "reliable" and "come back home". Eventually, those dumb masses started to realize that these were just buzz words meant to disguise the fact that AT&T charged more. I see the same thing happening to AOL.
