Both actions are predicated on a substantial degree of bullishness. I see nothing in today's market that would support such a posture. That being the case, a preference for shorting puts is probably based on a belief that we have seen the bottom. I'd suggest anyone making that assumption test it against their earlier expectations for the market over the last 12 months.
