CDR Owners:

When was the last time you checked your firmware? On my new P4 XP system I have a leading-edge Plextor 24X CDR burner which seemed to be running slow. By checking out plextor.com I discovered that they've released a firmware upgrade that fixes a number of problems under Windows XP. The net is that after installing it the drive runs blazingly fast. I know Windows XP maintains a driver database but the firmware is the software that's inside the drive and so it won't show up in Windows Update.

Other manufacturers may have similar updates. Something to check out on your system.
