A Moral Paragon [David Freddoso]
An eighth grader lectures Rep. John Conyers's (D-Mich.) wife about her childish behavior on Detroit's City Council, specifically an incident in which she shouted repeatedly out of order and called the council president "Shrek." Instead of owning up to it as obviously inappropriate, Mrs. Conyers defends her conduct.
Kierra Bell, Eighth Grader: But you're an adult. We have to look up to you.
Conyers: Absolutely.
Bell: We're looking on TV, and like — this is an adult, calling another adult "Shrek?" That's something a second-grader would do.
Conyers: And so at school, you've never done that? You've never said anything that you shouldn't have said inappropriately?
Bell: We are kids, we're children...
Conyers: That's not my question, though. Have you ever done that?
Bell: I said "yes."
Conyers: All right. So, and you did that out of frustration, also, right?
Bell: Yes.
Conyers: And so we're all human, right?
Bell: We're human, but you have to know your boundaries. He's the president...of the City Council.
Conyers: And so do you think that just because someone is the president, they have a right not to allow other other people to be heard?
Bell: They are allowed to let other people be heard, but not in a disrespectful way
Conyers: Okay. And to me, he was being disrespectful.
Bell: He was, but you didn't have to call him a name.
Conyers: But now you're telling me what I should have or should not have done.
Bell: You are an adult, you have that choice.
Conyers: And everybody has choices.
Bell: But sometimes, people have to think before they act.
Conyers: Okay, well I'm not going to be combative with you, young lady...
This girl's parents deserve a medal. And can we start a write-in campaign for Kierra Bell against Conyers for City Council? She may be legally too young for the job, but she's already more mature. (h/t Hot Air)
