I am the computer / network technician for a small rural School Division, and first heard of AVG when I was investigating our choices for an Antivirus software solution in late-November of 2001. At the time I noted that AVG had a free offer (AVG Anti-Virus Donation Program for Schools), which offered free licensing of AVG 6.0 Professional Edition.

So I signed up, figuring that our school division will try this solution because "something is better than nothing", and it is hard to argue with the price (free). If it doesn't suit our needs then our anti-virus options will still remain open.

Now that I've received the licensing keys earlier this month, I've had some time to start using it. This week started with one of the office users noticing an unusual email from a known source. The office user called me to investigate further. The email in question had a bunch of meaningless text and an executable file attachment, suspicious indeed. I told the user to forward the email to me, because I had just installed AVG Professional to evaluate. I received the email, which was immediately flagged as having a payload full of "Magistrate" virus in the file attachment. I was impressed at its ability to contain and eradicate the email virus, and I like that AVG can be configured to automatically check for file updates.

I am installing AVG on all office and administrative computers within the school division. AVG should suit our antivirus needs, I am very impressed so far.
