Derek -

but then Unix is also improving and will continue to do so.

Very true. Sun may even get a workable 64bit version of Solaris someday!

Also from a not too techical point of view, can someone please tell me how NT will ever be as scaleable as Unix?

Without getting too technical, it's not easy. Also, I don't think people would find it very interesting (and I don't really need a flame war). If you'd like to discuss it in private email, I'd be happy to.

Linux is getting phenomenal support and if I'm not mistaken the source code is there for anyone, correct?

Yea, the source is there. It's faster on Sparc and x86 than Solaris, and the ISVs are really starting to notice it. The total # of Linux seats is huge, and while there's no way to definitely count them, some estimate that the number is higher than NT (you get source, it scales better, and it's free. Which would you choose for you're business' web server?).
