M_e,

Nice to hear from you again. I was one of the most vocal critics of the "old site" comparing it to the back seat of a junked out Ford. The new site while having a more polished look and feel is still incomplete in my opinion. When I spoke to Dawson before and during the annual meeting he felt so confident in his patent position that he said he was releasing the troops to present technical articles at meetings and in journals. I have not seen a single example. I agree that this approach is more desirable than the testimonials. In addition those of you who were at the meeting in March saw me drop my notebook when Lev showed a slide with a cycle life of over 4000 and an energy density slightly better than the cobalt chemistry. Now we find that the phosphate cells have energy densities 14% less than cobalt and equivalent cycle life.

In my last correspondence with you I told you about Valence's plans to seek an independent evaluation of the phosphate cathode. I have heard nothing along these lines. Have you? I continue to be of the opinion that if VLNC has a protected IP position, and can produce what they claim, then it makes no sense to remain silent. I am also troubled by the lack of production by Valence licensees. During several exchanges with ETION reps it became clear that they were not in volume production having lost their major customer Samsung after Samsung signed on as a Valence licensee. ULBI, likewise is doing nothing in the field and rumors continue that Hanil ceased operations. When I asked management and IR they said they could not comment on their licensees business. Perhaps you could beat the bushes and shed some light on this subject. You may also remember that I had contacts that were to test a phosphate cell. Turns out it was manganese chemistry. Go figure.

Better check with me before returning to the wine country. It is cold and we are under water<G>. Nice weather for a good glass of Cab or a late harvest desert wine and a fine cigar.

Robbie
