re golbal warming...how can it be bad to reduce emmisssions and raise fuel efficiency even if the causes of global warming are beyond our direct controll.

before anybody says that the cost will be too great to bear please consider the ongoing cost of bailing out the mortage fiasco ....

the money is there and even if it was not it could be created by decree as is being done now to bail out the credit market.

the dividends will be cleaner air (and healthier population)and greater fuel use efficiency.

ps re.the mortgage problem

in the first 4 months of its life how often and for how much have central banks had to intervene massively in the markets?

consider also that of all debt mortgages are the longest in term and therefore may take a correspondingly long time to materialize in full.
