Iraq Explosion Kills 5 U.S. Soldiers in Ramadi, Military Says
Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Five U.S. soldiers were killed when a homemade bomb exploded while they conducted combat operations in western Iraq, the U.S. military said.

The soldiers, assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed yesterday in Ramadi, in Iraq's al-Anbar province, west of Baghdad, the military said today in an e-mailed statement. No further details were provided.

U.S.-led coalition and Iraqi forces are battling insurgents from Basra in the south to Tal Afar in the north, and have conducted several operations in recent months to crack down on rebels in cities and towns in the mainly Sunni Muslim al-Anbar province, including Haditha, Hit, Karabilah and al-Qaim.
