At Shooters Grill, waitresses carry guns for Jesus

A photographer from the Summit Daily News in Summit County, Colorado, snapped a few doozies of a newly opened restaurant that puts a right-wing interpretation on the Hooters chain–more specifically, exploiting firearms instead of scantily clad women.

The waitstaff at Shooters Grille is mostly female, all of whom are packing concealed weapons in leg holsters. (The state of Colorado allows registered gun owners to carry firearms into restaurants.) It’s to remind Americans of the romance of getting one’s head blown off the old-timey way.

The bulk of Rifle, Colorado’s community (population 9,000) apparently feels comfortable with the concept. “We think it’s just fine,” one customer said. “We carry guns ourselves and own a rifle, shotgun and handguns. We live in a very small town and we take care of our own crime problems.” (FYI: In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau listed Sandy Hook, Connecticut’s population under 1,000 people.)

Owner Lauren Boebert said she loves the Bible and the U.S. Constitution and that they “encourage” packing and eating.

“Customers love that they can come here and express their rights,” Boebert explained. “People can come in carrying their gun, and they can pray over their food. “I consulted with my Christian friends and everyone said ‘Shooters’ sounded like a bar or a strip joint,” Boebert continued. “But … this is Rifle. It was founded around guns and the Old West. We called it Shooters and started throwing guns and Jesus all over the place.”

You can also ogle your friends’ daughters as they serve burgers and fries. “Shoot, yeah!” is not an uncommon pun on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
