PATRIOT TO EXHIBIT LOW-COST, JAVA-NATIVE MICROPROCESSOR
Embedded Systems Conference to Showcase ShBoomTM Technology's Latest Application
SAN DIEGO, Calif., September 29, 1997 - Patriot Scientific Corporation (OTCBB: PTSC) today announced that it will exhibit its PSC1000 JavaTM microprocessor, based upon its ShBoomTMtechnology, on September 30 at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose. Patriot will demonstrate Java running for the first time on a PSC1000 series microprocessor.
Patriot will also show, for the first time publicly, the new .5 micron version of the PSC1000 family, further demonstrating their commitment to the microprocessor market. Phil Morettini, vice president, sales & marketing for Patriot said, "We intend to ship .5 micron PSC1000 microprocessors to customers during the 4th Quarter. This processor paves the way for an array of new devices aimed at the explosive Internet market."
According to its agreement with Sun, PTSC is in the process of porting JavaOSTM and Java Virtual MachineTM to Patriot's family of low-cost, high performance microprocessors. The PSC1000 was designed to provide economic solutions to the growing market for new Java applications, including Internet-enabled cell phones, video phones, network computers, set-top boxes and a host of new Internet appliances.
"Our PSC1000 enables system designers to design cost effective, high performance Java-based solutions today," said Morettini.
The .5 micron addition to the PSC1000 family provides faster processing along with smaller chip size and lower power consumption. The processor will run at 100 MHz and will be available in 5 volt and 3.3 volt versions.
We are pleased to see PTSC incorporating JavaOSTM into their cutting-edge PSC1000 microprocessor," said David Spenhoff, director of product marketing and field communications, for Sun Microsystems', JavaSoft division. Patriot's microprocessors make the development of exciting, Internet-enabled, Java-based products possible."
Additionally, Patriot will attend the ExpoTM for Sun licensees in Hawaii the week of September 29th and will demonstrate the PSC1000 at the COMDEX Show in Las Vegas, November 17-21.
Patriot recently announced that the PSC1000 ShBoom processor had been selected by GENROCO, Inc. for use in high-bandwidth, high data transfer products targeted for end use in digital video, 3-D seismic and satellite imaging applications. GENROCO manufactures Fibre Channel, HIPPI, Ultra SCSI, and DVB products for such platform venders as Fujitsu, Tektronix, Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, and Sun Microsystems.
Founded in 1987, Patriot Scientific Corporation designs, manufactures and markets high-performance ISDN Basic Rate and Primary Rate products for digital communications, a 32-bit microprocessor targeted at the Internet appliance and traditional embedded systems markets, and ground-penetrating radar and ionized gas antenna technologies.
