Bart,

Aaaahhh....not only are you bright, but you philosophize as well!

You are indeed correct. The more bandwidth available, the more
people will use it. At the same time, constraints will create
innovation. The need to encode and decode video for example are
perfect examples of technology that evolved because of bandwidth
constraints.

My point in relation to Sanctuary Woods is that more and more
companies are using it for a number of different things. Some
entry level WWW entrants have used it only for advertising
their products. Some take orders using this medium. Others
sell products. Granted if the backbone isn't working, why would
I want to use it to download data/software. On the other hand,
I currently download software all the time (Netscape). If the
medium exists and it works, why not use it.

SW will certainly get more exposure and greater distribution
using the internet. Problems with sufficient bandwidth is one
that faces all companies who intend on using this medium. I
would assume that any and all would make every effort to ensure
that this won't be the bottleneck. Look at the long distance
carriers who are increasingly adding the internet capability
as a part of their phone bill. I think that SW has made the
right choice in porting to this medium. It is certainly easier
and less expensive than creating shrink-wrapped boxes of CDs
that they need to distribute around the nation.

Thanks, Kent.
