Should the jumpers on both drives be set to cable select? Cable select requires a special cable. If you have it then you can make that change and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't fix it or you do not have that cable I would go to the control panel,open system, tab to device and look for the cd rom and see if a yellow mark is by it.
