Here's an Ambilight report based on a consumer survey taken at the Shanghai Auto Show. Interesting, IMO, because it confirms that sun protection and insulation are more important than the transparent view. And there's no mention of a privacy issue.:
Auto Show Experience Ambilight EC Dynamic Canopy
During the Shanghai Auto Show, a total of 38 panoramic sunroof non electric sunshade models were exhibited. To this end, we conducted users experience research on EC dynamic canopy. We conducted an on-site survey on 508 Shanghai Auto Show visitors who were interested in panoramic sunroof models and had experienced EC dynamic canopy models to see their thoughts on panoramic sunroof.
Among the user profiles who have experienced EC dynamic canopy, 20.88% are from mid to high yield families, 45.05% are from middle class families, with a gender ratio of approximately 6:4, and over 80% are from the core purchasing group aged 24-40.
Among users who pay attention to the panoramic sunroof function, more than 60% of users believe that the high transparency and high lighting brought by the sunroof will make them very enjoy it, bringing an overall aesthetic improvement to the cabin. The larger the sunroof, the more it can reflect the invincible view of the rear row above the roof, and the rear row is not oppressive, occasionally creating romance.

After experiencing EC dynamic canopy, nearly 90% of users believe that sun protection and insulation are the basic demand; More than 60% of users believe that having a clearer view of the panoramic sunroof will make them feel more cost-effective; 34% users said they would pay more attention to the color adjustment function (color adjustment speed, custom mode, adjustable color); 23% users believe that the EC dynamic canopy must be energy-saving and environmentally friendly.
After experiencing Ambilight gray and Ambilight blue EC dynamic canopy, over 50% of users will choose Ambilight gray EC dynamic canopy, while 40% of users support more sporty and lively Ambilight blue EC dynamic canopy.
After experiencing EC dynamic canopy, nearly 80% of users believe that panoramic sunroof equipped with EC dynamic technology can meet their needs for sun protection.
My take is that the SPD sunroof would be very well received in China, where BMW will begin Neue Klasse production at Shenyang in 2026. |
