Mr. Nigel Stokes reports
DataMirror is now offering Linux customers licensing of Transformation Server for Linux at no charge to enable seamless business data integration for e-commerce, business intelligence and other distributed data applications.
Linux is a growing phenomenon. Support from companies like Red Hat (Nadaq: RHAT) and Corel (TSE: COR) is propelling the rapid adoption of Linux into the mainstream. "Linux is being widely used within corporations for e-commerce applications today," said Nigel Stokes, chairman, president and chief executive officer of DataMirror Corporation.
"Transformation Server for Linux is a proven component of infrastructure for dot-com initiatives. Analysts believe that Linux's biggest impact will be on the server side, not on the desktop."
With at least seven million users worldwide, Linux is the fastest growing server operating environment. International Data Corporation predicts commercial Linux server software shipments will grow at a rate of 25 per cent per year through 2003. Dan Kusnetzky, program director for operating environments and serverware research at IDC, reports that: "Linux is the fastest growing server operating environment, with a growth rate between 1997 and 1998 of 190 per cent. Over 700,000 Linux server software licenses were installed in 1998 alone.
"The continued growth of the platform and its widespread adoption by users on servers depend on the support of leading application developers and utilities vendors like DataMirror. With the number of DBMS vendors, like Oracle, IBM, Informix and Sybase, who have committed to Linux support in response to unexpected user demand, a Linux-enabled Transformation Server data integration tool is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth," says IDC's Mr. Kusnetzky.
DataMirror continues to lead the way in business-to-business e-commerce for business data integration software. Transformation Server for Oracle 8.0 on Linux is now available for free download via the Internet by visiting datamirror.com. Although Transformation Server for Linux licenses are available free of charge, customers will still be required to pay for installation services, maintenance and support.
