Putin is completely wrong in thinking that this war in Iran will escalate into WW III. Russia is bogged down in Ukraine and China is not coming to Iran's rescue. So, the only escalation I see is coming from the US on behalf of Israel. Most important thing to keep in mind is that if regime change does not take place, the war has been a failure from an Israeli point of view. Even total surrender would only be a partial victory since the clerical regime would look to restart its nuclear program very quickly.
