Donald, I agree that the ISPs aren't going away in the near future because of ADSL, cable modems or anything else. However, the local telcos will grab some share due to ADSL (its cost is not prohibitive, especially when you cancel that second phone line that costs thirty some dollars a month) as they are rolling it out now in many markets. Also, it will be available to a lot more people than you imply. You only need to be within 18,000 feet (about 3.4 miles) of a central office or an access node. It will take some time to offer it to everyone within range, but it will take a lot of users away from analog. And don't think that the ISPs can just let the telcos spend the money to provide ADSL connections and then just take the Internet access business. What good is a 1.5-8Mbps connection to BellSouth if I then buy Internet access from a company with POPs filled with 28.8 and 56k modems? MSPG has some work to do and money to spend as well, and while they stew over it, BellSouth.net is getting a head start.
