The US spends insane amounts of money on health care and runs way behind the rest of the developed world on most important indicators of health

Well if state run healthcare could make people get up from in front of the TV and go for a walk, or stop abusing illegal drugs you might have an argument. Americans are dying from their vices not from deficiencies in their healthcare system. They prefer to take a pill over putting on sneakers, take out over cooking at home. Liposuction over controlling their eating and exercise. If anything it is their healthcare system which is continually bailing them out of their lifetimes full of terrible habits. They might be forced to take better care of themselves if they didn't have drugs and surgery to bail them out of their poor choices.
