Buy & Sell columnist Sonita Horvitch says in the Wednesday edition of the Financial Post that Berkley Petroleum is a top stock pick of mid-cap specialist Jim Goar, v-p of investments at O'Donnell Management Investment. Ms Horvitch notes the stock, currently $14.50, has a 52-week range of $18.35 to $10.33. Mr Goar favours the energy producer because of its "excellent exploration track record." The company is engaged in oil and gas production inAlberta,BC, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. Overall, Mr Goar is finding good opportunities in his principal areas of interest: industrial companies, oil and gas producers and non-bank financials. Mr Goar, who manages the O'Donnell Group Fund, notes that his universe, small and mid caps, has come under some selling pressure of late. He says that when the market comes under pressure, this segment tends to suffer more, and conversely, when the market does very well,
these stocks can do better.
