Phone.com Developer Program Continues Explosive Growth by Reaching 100,000 Registered Developers
WAP Developer Program Exceeds 1300% Annual Growth
June 14, 2000 09:01 AM Eastern Time REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Phone.com, Inc. PHCM , a leading provider of software and applications that enable the delivery of Internet-based voice and information services to mass-market wireless telephones, today announced the continued explosive growth of its Developer Program. In the past year, registration numbers have soared from approximately 6500 as of June 1, 1999 to a remarkable milestone of 100,000 registrations as of June 11, 2000 -- exceeding 1300% growth. The Phone.com(TM) Developer Program is designed to provide the resources required to successfully define, architect, and implement WAP information services for wireless phones. The program is open to all developers worldwide and is free-of-charge. Resources available to developers in the program include a Software Development Kit (UP.SDK)(TM), access to a Developer UP.Link(TM), which supports both WML and HDML, and the Phone.com Developer Forum, where developers can exchange ideas and receive technical expertise from the Phone.com technical support engineers in the U.S., Ireland and Japan.
The global community of 100,000 Phone.com developers relies on the Phone.com Developer Web Site as a key source for information on how to create Internet and intranet services and applications for WAP-enabled wireless phones. The site provides the necessary tools and services for WAP developers to create powerful wireless applications. From one central site, developers can download the UP.SDK, seek technical support, reference the technical library, get answers to Frequently Asked Questions (including a Japanese version), receive updates on Developer News, access the Developer Forum, and utilize the UP.Link gateway. The Phone.com Developer site can be found at developer.phone.com .
"Given the increasing demand for wireless Internet services, it makes sense to expect growth in our Developer Program," said Kathy Simpson, director of developer marketing for Phone.com. "Even so, Phone.com is delighted by the rate at which developers are flocking to our program. We receive consistent developer feedback telling us that we have established an industry-leading program, and that the tools we provide are easy to use to build dynamic wireless Internet sites and cover the widest selection of phones. We're proud to be able to provide key technical resources to the growing community of WAP developers."
"The Phone.com Developer Program has been an invaluable resource to Shared Medical Systems Corporation (SMS) in developing our HealthBand(TM) clinical results and messaging applications," said Greg Taylor, Vice President, Turnkey Solutions, SMS. "In addition, Phone.com's excellent technical support and widespread industry connections have bolstered our efforts to rapidly roll out our products to the healthcare industry."
"Phone.com does everything possible to provide developers with the support and materials necessary for rapid development and deployment," said Richard J. Rzasa, Chief Information Officer of TD Waterhouse, a leading online financial services firm and the world's second largest discount broker. "The abundant resources available to developers is reason enough for a new developer to register."
