Dear Investor,
Here it is! The Internet Broker Scorecard for Q1 '98. This quarter we evaluated 52 Internet brokers, up from 33 last quarter, and...it's a threepeat! DLJdirect comes out on top for the third straight quarter, but Waterhouse is closing in at #2, up from last quarter's #4. In a surprising outcome, E*TRADE and Schwab drop out of the Top 5. Meanwhile, Web Street Securities hangs on to a Top 5 slot while deep discounter SURETRADE debuts at #6. See the results for yourself at www.scorecard.com.
With over 100 criteria for each of 52 brokers, this is the most comprehensive and detailed Internet Broker Scorecard yet. For example, we've added measured performance data for the first time -- a test of download times and failure rates for all of the brokers. We hope to stimulate a lot of discussion in the industry about performance measures, and hope to incorporate more extensive testing into future Scorecards.
By next week, we will add the comments that go along with each broker's ranking, as well as a Performance Monitor that will display the results of our performance measurements. In the following weeks, we will launch an Internet Broker Career Center with job opportunities in the Internet Brokerage industry and a new Discussion Center to provide a forum to discuss the brokerage industry. As always, we welcome your feedback.
The Q1 rankings: 1. DLJdirect 2. Waterhouse Securities 3. Lindner Funds 4. National Discount Brokers 5. Web Street Securities
